01 / THE BASICS
Coinbase Wallet Extension: a wallet for the open web
Coinbase Wallet Extension is a browser-based way to access a self-custody wallet and connect with supported Web3 experiences. It can help you manage supported crypto assets, review transactions, and interact with decentralized applications from your desktop browser. Think of it as a doorway: it gives you a convenient way to reach onchain services, while you remain responsible for the choices made with your wallet.
That distinction matters. A self-custody wallet is different from an exchange account. You control access through your wallet credentials and recovery phrase; Coinbase cannot retrieve a recovery phrase that you lose. The extension is a tool, not a promise of investment performance, and digital assets can fluctuate in value. Before you connect, pause to understand what a site is asking you to approve.
Convenience is useful. Knowing exactly what you’re approving is essential.
A SIMPLE WEB3 RULE02 / FIRST STEPS
Getting started, without rushing
Start from Coinbase’s official wallet information and follow its current instructions for your browser and region. If you choose to install the extension, check the publisher and listing carefully; avoid sponsored lookalikes, unsolicited messages, and links shared in comments or direct messages. When in doubt, navigate to the official Coinbase site yourself rather than following a link.
Install from a trusted source.
Use the official Coinbase Wallet page to find the supported installation route and verify what you’re adding.
Create or import with care.
Read each prompt on your own device. Never share a recovery phrase with a person, website, or support agent.
Review before connecting.
Check the domain and read permission requests before connecting to an application or approving a transaction.
03 / YOUR SAFETY
Keep security close
Your recovery phrase is the master key to a self-custody wallet. Write it down and keep it somewhere private and secure, offline. No legitimate support representative needs it—not by email, chat, phone, or screen share. Treat anyone asking for it as a serious warning sign. Keep your browser and operating system updated, protect your device with a strong passcode, and be cautious with links, downloads, and unexpected prompts.
Before confirming an action, inspect the details. A familiar logo does not prove a page is genuine, and a wallet connection does not make an application trustworthy. If something feels unusual, cancel and verify the request through official help resources. Only use funds you can afford to lose, and seek independent advice if you’re unsure about a financial decision.
04 / KEEP EXPLORING
Explore at your own pace
Web3 can feel like a new language at first. Begin with the official getting-started resources, learn the basics of networks and transaction fees, and try unfamiliar features only after you understand their purpose. This guide is educational and independent; product availability and steps can change. Always rely on current official documentation for setup and account support.
